Ford Ranch ParkOne
of the great treasures for those of us who live off Cuervavaca Road in the Eanes
ISD in west Austin off 2244 Bee Caves Road is a little known oasis called
Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park. This quiet sanctuary of towering pecan trees
is a great place to relax for a picnic, walk the dogs, do some casual river bank
fishing or read a book under a shady pecan tree. In my opinion this is one of
the best parks in all of Austin. Serious hikers should go elsewhere though, this
is more for strolling and meandering through the pecan grove meadows and turtle
watching along the river and creek banks. On a typical day you'll usually only
see a few others enjoying the park giving you a sense of peace and space, which
is a refeshing break from the busy crowds at the Lady Bird Park Hike and Bike
Trails. There is also a boat launch and vollyball net set up. Pack a picnic and
use one of the many picnic tables availabe although Allison and I usually just
throw a blanket down on a grassy knoll under a shady pecan tree...ahh Texas. | About

Ford Park was formally a working ranch and is 215 acres and has roughly 2.5 miles
of trails. It is located at 614 Commons Ford Road, Austin Texas 78733. Sadly,
the park is only open between Tuesday through Sunday from 12:00 noon to 6:00PM
(closed on Monday's) and this one of the major drawbacks for the park. There is
an automatic gate that closes at 6:00PM, so just watch the time when you go. Also
there is no swimming in the creek or Lake Austin from the park. |
Building
Facilities at Commons Ford Ranch ParkWhile
we haven't ever used the rental facilities at Commons Ford Ranch Park, there is
a 2,500 sf un-furnished house that you can rent for formal events like parties,
weddings, reunions, etc. The house has two patios and a swimming pool and can
accomodate 50 to 150 people (outside). For reservations and information you can

Ford Park is located at 614 Commons Ford Road. Just turn north on Cuervavaca from
Bee Caves Road (2244) and turn left on Commons Ford Park (at the firestation)
and the park will be on your left about a mile and half down the road. |
